Get Reconditioned Gearboxes Or Have Your Gear Box Reconditioned

Reconditioned gearboxes are advertised online and a simple search can get you many thousands of firms offering them for outright sale or exchange.

What Are Reconditioned Gearboxes?

Gearboxes can wear out very easily and when the gearbox in your vehicle has been damaged, you will need to find a replacement or think about getting your own gearbox reconditioned. You can easily find a used gearbox at a salvage yard, but though they may cost less initially, frequent problems may arise, making you spend more than you would have had you purchased a reconditioned gearbox.

Reconditioned gearboxes are gearboxes that are completely taken apart and replacements are made with new parts. The gearboxes are stripped completely. The case, the differential, the synchro hub, and the main shaft are dismantled and then cleaned in decarbonising solution. This cleans them of any oil, stain or paints.
The case is checked for cracks and it will be replaced if there are cracks or if the threads are damaged. The synchro hubs and the gear dogteeth are carefully inspected and replaced, if necessary, with genuine parts.

The gaskets and seals used are new and are pressure tested with transmission oils. The hydraulic units are tested using diagnostic machines. The gear box oil is changed and the gearbox oil filters are changed too. Many of the reconditioned gearboxes come with a warranty ranging between 6-12 months, while some have a cap of up to 12,000 miles. These are also supplied with 4 synchro A Series or A Rod change form.

The firm that you select to exchange a gearbox or purchase a gearbox or have your gearbox rebuilt has to be reputable with many years of experience in the field. They must also have qualified staff with the necessary equipment and space to do a good job. They must have the latest hydraulic and diagnostic equipments. They need to have the latest dynamometer, in order to completely test the gearboxes before the fitting. They must use genuine, new parts and the quality of work must be good. It is better to compare quotes from various firms and then think about which firms offer a better deal.

You can get new gearboxes from the factory, but they can be expensive, while the reconditioned gearboxes are available at a fraction of the cost. Sometimes people need to get a second opinion, as the gearbox may just need a little repair to get back in condition and there may not be a need for replacing or reconditioning it. If you have only a layman's knowledge about the various car parts, you may be taken for a ride by some unscrupulous characters, so be sure you are dealing with a reliable and qualified person. Next time you have problems with the gear, just log online and look up firms offering you reconditioned gearboxes.
